The Ten Commandments

law

Then God spoke all these words, saying,
ONE

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me.

Two
You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them

THREE
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

FOUR
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God

FIVE
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

SIX
You shall not murder.

SEVEN
You shall not commit adultery.

EIGHT
You shall not steal.

NINE
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

TEN
You shall not covet your neighbor's house

Exodus 20: 1-17 New American Standard Bible NASB

Still relevant today

The ten commandments provide the foundation of most of the legal systems in the world today. Do you know them?

  1. The first three deal with our worship of God. Taking idols, i.e, placing places, people or things above God has been the reason many have strayed from the truth

  2. The fourth and fifth commandment deal with our conduct and responsibility. It is personal. How do you conduct yourself when in private. keeping the sabbath does not just relate to your going to church. It refers to all your spiritual duties. These involve honouring your parents and elders. Both in the flesh and in the Lord

  3. The last five commands deal with your relationship to other people. The society we live in and how we treat our fellow human beings. Do people see Christ in you?

Take some time to meditate on the ten commandments today. Try and relate them to the life we live today.
