The Slothful Hunter

Prov 12: 27 says 'The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting, but the substance of a diligent man is precious'.

Can you imagine a man that sets out to hunt for an animal and accomplishes his mission only to leave the carcass of his prey in the garden unattended! What will eventually happen?

It will rot away.

To hunt takes time and skill. Just imagine how much time and skill was invested in catching that animal - all for it just to rot away.

If only this person had taken time to set up a fire, prepare the animal and roast it with care and attention. His effort would have been worth the labour.

Roasting takes time and requires careful attention.

Perhaps this person was lazy.

The Bible says that the substance of the diligent man is precious. Diligent would have made the difference.

It could be that this is what will make the difference with those dreams and goals that you have. It is not good enough to just let them fade away, but rather to act like the diligent man whose substance came out precious.

We cannot afford to deal with a slack hand. God forbid that our substance rots away. It took this man time to hunt, but due to slothfulness, his substance did not come out precious.

Yes, God has given us dreams, gifting and callings, but it takes diligence to bring them to perfection.
