Questions for discussion - Genesis 1 - 2

Introduction

Power of the spoken word
God created the world. Here is a vital truth we must all embrace. Science in the hands of some people may attempt to challenge this fact. The Bible is however clear on the origins of our faith. Indeed faith begins with a belief in the creator of the universe.

Eleven times the Bible records God speaking things into being in Genesis chapter 1. God could have made the world another way. Notice how He made man in Genesis 2.

So why did God create the world with words? Hebrews 11:3 seems to give us a clue.

Heb 11:1-3
11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. NKJV

Faith is the substance and God spoke it into being. What was in the heart of God, or should we say the spiritual realm, was brought into the natural realm by the words God spoke.

Nothing just happens. It takes an effort to get results; especially spiritual results.
Watch the words you speak. They are extremely powerful. With our words we can build up and tear down. With our words we can create friends, plans and futures. Words we speak, even in private, can have tremendous effects on our lives and the lives of people around. No wonder why satan would love us to murmur, backbite and complain. It kept the Israelites from reaching the Promised Land on time. What are your words keeping you from?
