God does care

There was a time in my life when I was doing a very boring job. I was working with a Christian organisation and receiving training at their headquarters, I thought, for a responsible position of ministry among women. Guess what job I was assigned?? Typing receipts in the finance department.

All day, every day, for weeks, and no mistakes allowed. I was sure some mistake had been made and that God had forgotten me. So I reminded Him of where I was and asked Him to get me out of there soon. He reminded me that He had not forgotten me and made it clear that He had lessons to teach me in the job. When the right time came He moved me, but I?m grateful for the lessons I learned there. Many people would echo the sentiment of verse 27 of Isaiah 40:- ?Why do you say, 0 Jacob, and complain, 0 Israel, My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God?

God does not care about me, or know my situation. He is too great to bother or care. But that is the wrong implication. The right implication comes in verse 28 which tells us that God is too great not to care. ?Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no-one can fathom.?

The Bible tells the story of a young girl, Esther, beautiful and loved by all who knew her, who was taken from her home and her loved ones to become the wife of a man she had never seen and of whom she might have been justifiably afraid. He was a king, and a king of a foreign and pagan power. How easily she could have rebelled against her unjust lot. But nowhere in her story is this evident. On the contrary she maintained the sweet attitude that had endeared her to her friends, and the submissive spirit which had commanded the respect of her guardian, and as a result she rose to a position where God was able to use her in one of the most dramatic moments in history.

She had come to the kingdom ?for such a time as this? and because of her actions and prayers was used to save her people, the Jews, from total destruction.

Certainly God would have heard and had compassion on the tears and anguish she must have experienced when taken away from home and loved ones to satisfy the lust of a sensual and indulgent man. Yet God had a greater plan, and Queen Esther has gone down in history as a saviour of the Jewish people, and a woman renowned for her courage and availability to God.
